FUNK:HAUS has long been home to innovation. Today, the building is occupied by tech companies who are carrying on this legacy by finding cutting-edge approaches to solve current issues.
With the goal of combining modernity and innovation with the rich history of Bochum and the Ruhr area, the enervolution team — the Bermuda Digital Studio, Bermuda Test Lab, and the Innovation Team — designed and built the creative co-working spaces that make up FUNK:HAUS. With the vision of making FUNK:HAUS a collaborative environment and a hub for technological innovation, enervolution sought to share the space with other companies. As a result, the FUNK:HAUS community expanded to include img.ly as a partner, and Pflegix and bee42 as co-workers with enervolution.

Coworking is a new style of working arose in the Silicon Valley. Start-ups, freelancer and creative people flexibly share the common rented rooms and want to exploit the advantage of working together and benefit from it.
Workspaces and required infrastructure (network, printer, scanner, telephone, etc.) are temporary available within these so called co-working spaces. Thus as well as through everyday exchange among each other, common organised events, workshops and other activities, the creation of a community is possible.
enervolution opened this co-working space in Bochum, in order to create this basis for building a community.
Over 70 years ago, this building housed the butchery Fleischwaren Funke, from which we derived the name FUNK:HAUS. Fleischwaren Funke was the largest butchery in Bochum, and was well known for their new, inventive marketing strategies. Today, the building is still owned by the Funke family, who are dedicated to maintaining the spirit of innovation and creativity that constitutes 68 Kortumstraße's legacy.
